Wood smoke rises above the tree tops in the spruce-fir forest. Autumn is here. Swamp birch, beech, and red maple now have chartreuse, squash, and crimson colored leaves. The forest floor, slick with damp foliage, offers its own form of tasseography. Inside the log cabin there is dry wood air, tea, and a handmade quilt.
