Nothing like the warm fragrant smoke of incense on a snowy morning. This is a simple loose blend of perfumer grown and cured plants: patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), a mix of scented geranium leaves and flowers (Pelargonium vars. cultivars), northern white cedar (arborvitae, Canadian tree of life, Thuja occidentalis), and Dominican sage (Salvia dominica). I grew all but the white cedar organically from seed. White cedar, also known as arborvitae and the Canadian Tree of life, is not a true cedar. True cedars are members of the Cedrus genus, in the Pinaceae family, whereas arborvitae is an evergreen conifer in the cypress family Cupressaceae. It grows prolifically in my region, and its population is actually increasing. I gathered this white cedar foliage from the wild stand at the edge of my woods. It burns with lovely popping sounds as a sweet wood with amber qualities reminiscent of Himalayan cedar, palo santo, and white sandalwood. The cured patchouli in this blend is not very aromatic until burned, but when it ignites, you will be rewarded with an absolutely enticing aroma: warm, spicy, and comforting. Although my Pelargonium cultivars have incense, pepper and agarwood notes as cured botanicals, when they are burned they release a rosy, fresh-peppery aroma that is present in the essential oil from the same plant. Dominican sage is an ancient and holy variety whose candelabra shape is thought to have inspired the menorah. Nicknamed "pungent sage," it is highly fragrant fresh, cured, or burned as it is covered in resinous hairs or trichomes. Its intensely balsamic, apocrine and fruity scent bears similarity to both clary sage (S. sclarea) and white sage (S. apiana), but Dominican sage is more fragrant than either.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE: loose incense measured out into a 1 oz. tin, which is perfect for storing and further aging your incense, should you so desire. This incense is best used by igniting the leaves individually or together on a censer to enjoy the fragrant smoke. Perfect for ritual work and meditation, Ghost incense can also be enjoyed on a charcoal censer or by tossing it into the fire. On an electric incense heater it will be more subtle and less diffusive.

Wild Veil natural incense is composed by me, Abby, using homemade, wildcrafted and organic aromatics in Vermont. These include my handmade enfleurage, tinctures, enfleurage extraits, absolutes, resinoids and concretes, and floral waxes. I spend much of my time growing plants organically and sustainably foraging the woods and bogs on my mountain property, which is far from pollutants.
