Wild Veil Fall Fragrances • a sample box of 13 autumn themed natural perfumes and colognes: October, Chai Musk, Blood Moon, Deep Forest, Black Cat, Witch, Catacombs, Hecate, Death, Samhain, Hive fixative, Tobacco fixative, and Woolen fixative. Color may vary.
October - the woods in October. Foliage, Atlas cedarwood, evergreen, juniper berry, soil, and sap. Alive with green coriander, warm patchouli, and intimate labdanum powder, these autumn leaves are far from damp and decomposing. Foliate winter greens are starting to poke the air-- blue juniper berry and pine stir around an outdoor cedar sauna. Inside, myrrh glows upon hot coals. A rejuvenating, spiritual steam. Skews masculine but can be worn by any gender. Vegan.
Chai Musk - I put this on before a cozy autumn nap and waking up in it was like waking up to a milky amber sunrise at a spice market dotted with chai wallahs. Dawn mist twists with steam from decoctions of bed tea. There's curled Assam mamri along with gunpowder tea. Water buffalo milk. Jaggery brown sugar from the date palm. Molasses mother liquor dissolves in wild mother milk. Tiger fur and elephant breath. The warming spices of a cup of masala chai bed tea joined by an amber streak of musk make Chai Musk an intimate, creamy fragrance that is sexy and comforting.
Blood Moon - black mulberries, wild Vermont black spruce, unwashed wool from a black Icelandic wether, and wild Vermont poplar buds. Centering on a theme of ripeness, fertility, and wild darkness, Blood Moon is a gender neutral botanical fragrance made exclusively from my handmade absolutes of raw and foraged materials. I tinctured the raw aromatics in organic, high proof, food grade ethanol for several months, and then used slow, cold co-evaporation to reduce the solutions to an absolute. The alchemy bound by co-evaporation concentrates and complexifies the overlapping notes: black berry notes of spruce and mulberry, wine notes of poplar buds and black mulberries, and the wild resinous notes of black spruce resinoid and poplar buds. The top notes are fixed by the field and pasture animalic provided by black Icelandic wether wool's high lanolin content. Gender neutral.
Deep Forest - an evergreen botanical fragrance with my own absolutes from foraged and tinctured wild blue, Norway and black spruce resins, and Eastern white pine resin. These extractions pass from woodsy aromatic heights to black, boozy coniferous depths. With raw propolis and poplar bud, sweet and winy. Botanical leather complements the tree resins, and traces of wild orange, sweet orange, bergamot, lemon and clove bud add round, spicy fruit. With fir balsam, myrrh, and cedar moss. For any gender. Vegan.
Black Cat - soft, fierce furry love tearing through bewitched forest. Of witch born, Black Cat is a bestial, pagan-loving, plant worshiping, antifascist fragrance that can be worn by any gender and is vegan.
Witch - smoke monster with a blackened amber heart. A witches' brew. Crackling amber flecked by iron, ash, and metal alloys, but also straw, deep woods, and resinous riches. Warm cedar tempers cool, mysterious palo santo and green galbanum, finishing with choya's leather scorch. Vegan.
Catacombs - bone, incense, salt of the earth, and dust. A subterranean chamber lined with the relics of ancient resins. Jars filled with saffron, fragrant seeds, herbs, and ointment perfume the air. The walls are piled high with a pyre from precious agarwood and sandalwood. Frankincense embers scattered on the stone floor are redolent of a recent ritual. Animalic oud, ambrette, and vetiver: musk disinterred. Vegan. For any gender.
Hecate - like the titular sorceress who often appears tripled, Hecate is a changeable but powerful botanical fragrance with outstanding tenacity for a natural blend. The heady aroma of herbs and camphor charges forth at first breath-- a wreath of lemon, rosemary, and surprising eucalyptus. After fifteen minutes to an hour these sharper notes stop writhing, and settle onto a cedar forest floor amidst glowing coals of myrrh and incense. The cedar is incredibly deep, a magical wood loom of sweet white, floral Himalayan, and furry Atlas. As cloven hooves tromp across pads of basil, delicate anise oil gets squeezed from the green velvet. In the dry down that lasts and lasts (more than a day, on my skin and clothing), Hecate becomes a smoky, earthy amber, but no less unusual, perfume. A winding, dark road of patchouli, labdanum, tonka, and leather lead into an everlasting frankincense night. A strange one, that I myself cannot stop sniffing. As is her dynamic essence, Hecate can transform to be worn by any gender. Vegan.
Death - the scorpion winters in fossilized amber. A hollow smell. Incense bones and cool violet butter. Black, brown, white and green. Notes of argan, nuts, shivering herbs, neglected frankincense, frozen beach, fossils, and cold fire. Transformation, change, Major Arcanum of Scorpio. Vegan. For any gender.
Samhain (solid) - autumnal ritual in the witches' forest. Foliage turned to ash. Pass the hag pipe. My own burley and Virginia tobacco absolutes from cured leaf. Packed into lacquered wood. Joints rolled from honey paper, sealed with foraged fir goop and honeybee musk. Smoky amber resins, incense enfleurage, cloven spices and botanical musk. Moonshine tea: rum, lapsang souchong, oak barrels.
Hive fixative (solid) - sweet and musky base notes characteristic of a honeybee hive. Because I use my own absolutions of raw bee products (honey, beeswax, comb honey, propolis, royal jelly, bee bread and pollen) this offering will change seasonally depending on those extracts that are fresh and mature. Some of the ingredients that may be included come from colonies that collected nectar from Apalachicola tupelo gum trees, North Carolina and midwestern wildflowers, wild blackberries, sweet clover, thistle, black locust, poplar, prickly pear cactus, goldenrod, asters, buckwheat, orange blossoms, purple sage, and avocado trees.
Tobacco fixative (solid) - features my organic handmade absolutes of organic cured leaf: American Virginia Flue, Burley, and Canadian Virginia Flue. I also infused the raw beeswax and propolis used in the base with my aged tabacum tinctures to deepen the husky warm qualities of the composition. Sweet, amber, blackberry and mulberry notes with the anticipation of hand rolled smoke. Depending on the season and availability, it may include extractions of my homegrown nicotiana leaves and flowers.
Woolen fixative (solid) - funky sheep, meadow, and pasture notes from my handmade raw wool absolutes. These I concentrated by cold evaporation method from three types of unwashed sheep fleece that I had tinctured in high proof organic grain alcohol: Romeldale, Icelandic, and Churro. The unwashed Romeldale fleece is unbelievably soft. Romeldale-California Variegated Mutuant is an endangered breed of American sheep that produces high lanolin, very fine, multicolored wool. The resulting absolute has a creamy spring field and pasture scent. It’s sweet and reminds me of candlelight. The unwashed wool from a black Icelandic wether is funky and animalic. It is by far the oiliest and fattiest smelling of the three fleeces. Even with the barnyard leather overtones, it is warm and inviting. From another rare breed, the Navajo Churro wool has alfalfa notes amidst a southwestern desert profile. It's as if the heavy aroma of lanolin has been lightly dusted with sand and sage, and baked by the Arizona sun.
Each liquid perfume comes in a 1ml clear glass perfume vial with an applicator cap. The solid fragrances come in hinge top pods. These are samples of approximately 20-25 drops, enough for 4-6 wears, per perfume. All 13 fragrances will have handwritten labels, and they arrive nested inside a gift box filled with flowers, mosses, and plants that I have pressed and cured.

Wild Veil natural perfumes are composed by me, Abby, using homemade, wildcrafted and organic aromatics in Vermont. These include my handmade enfleurage, tinctures, enfleurage extraits, absolutes, resinoids and concretes, and floral waxes. I spend as much time growing plants and foraging as I do composing perfumes.

Wild Veil oil perfumes are suspended in an odorless base of organic MCT coconut oil. As they do not contain water, liquid perfumes do not expire, and may improve with age. While the volatile top notes (the ones that hit your nose first) will fade after a year or more, the base and heart notes will deepen and grow more complex.

In solid perfumes this silky transparent base (above) mingles beautifully with the earthy, honey musk of organic beeswax. Raw beeswax traps the aroma molecules, releasing them over time for an intimate experience.

The best way to experience a natural perfume is to apply it to well-moisturized skin, without rubbing in (absorption only shortens the wear time of fragrance) and without scrubbing off. Natural perfumes are dynamic and take a minimum of 2 hours to reach their final stage, or dry down. Enjoy the alchemical changes as they unfold from the initial intensity of top notes, to the warmth of the heart, to the depth of lower base notes.
