Salvia clevelandii, open pollinated in the organic Wild Veil Perfume Gardens on our De Luz site. This cultivar of Cleveland Musk Sage is possibly the single most fragrant sage, even above, white, black, and 'Thor.' With high amounts of cineole and camphor, it is renowned for its "rose potpourri" scent. To me it has a rich buttery depth not found in the other camphoraceous sages, giving it a savory gourmand character. And the gorgeous purplish blue inflorescence lend it an alien elegance. Also known as fragrant sage, blue sage, Jim sage, and Cleveland sage, it makes a sensational addition to a perfume garden.
The scent of our Cleveland Musk Sage is singular because of the rare confluence of three soils found on our property: black volcanic, red volcanic, and decomposing granite.
Plant in well-draining soil with full sun. Hardy to zone 8 outdoors but can be overwintered indoors in cooler climates.
