MULBERRY ABSOLUTE
Cured Organic Mulberry · Eight-Year Extraction · F/W 2026
The berry that belongs to a tree.
Mulberry occupies an unusual position among the fruits we casually group together as berries.
It resembles a blackberry in its clustered structure, yet its botanical lineage is entirely different. Mulberry belongs to the genus Morus, and its fruit develops from a cluster of flowers rather than a raspberry-like collection of drupelets from one flower.
This distinction is part of what makes it so interesting as an aromatic material.
Fresh mulberry can suggest a softer, more diffuse sweetness than raspberry, with a gentle fruit character that does not always announce itself through the sharp aromatic brightness associated with more assertive berries.
Depending on the species and ripeness, mulberry can occupy a territory between dark fruit juice, soft floral sweetness, faint green vegetation and the gentle acidity of ripe fruit.
For Mulberry Absolute, I began with cured organic fruit.
The cured mulberries remained in tincture for eight years before the extraction was concentrated through solvent evaporation.
The resulting absolute is a botanical extraction of the actual cured fruit.
I am interested in the relationship between mulberry's delicate fresh-fruit character and the greater density that curing and prolonged extraction can introduce.
Unlike a reconstructed berry accord, this material carries the complexity of the fruit itself into the solvent: its pulp, skin and other extractable constituents, rather than an idealized impression of sweetness.
Within the three-berry study, Mulberry is the botanical outlier.
Red Raspberry and Black Raspberry belong to Rubus. Mulberry belongs to Morus.
The resemblance between the fruits is visible, but their aromatic identities need not be symmetrical.
That difference is precisely the point.
Aromatic territory: Mulberry · soft dark-fruit sweetness · delicate floral fruit · gentle acidity · green fruit tissue · cured berry character.
Extraction: Cured organic Mulberry → eight years of tincture maceration → solvent evaporation → concentrated absolute.
Collection: CURED FRUIT · THE EIGHT-YEAR ABSOLUTES · F/W 2026.
