SMYRNA FIG ABSOLUTE

Cured Organic Smyrna Fig · Eight-Year Extraction · F/W 2026

Honey in the seeds. Amber in the flesh.

Smyrna Fig Absolute begins with organic Smyrna figs, cured before extraction, then macerated in tincture for eight years before concentration through solvent evaporation.

Fig possesses one of the strangest architectures of any fruit I work with.

What we recognize as the fig is a syconium: a fleshy, enclosed structure containing numerous tiny flowers and, in mature fruit, their seed-bearing structures.

The aromatic experience is inseparable from that architecture.

Skin enclosing pulp. Pulp surrounding innumerable tiny, granular interiors. Nectar-like sweetness interspersed with a drier, seed-rich texture.

Smyrna-type figs are especially evocative in their cured form.

The pale golden to amber flesh, delicate skin and dense interior suggest an aromatic territory of honey, dried fruit, warm hay, golden syrup and the faintly earthy, almost tobacco-like associations that sometimes accompany richly cured botanical matter.

There is a distinction between fig's sweetness and the sweetness of other fruits.

Raspberry can seem bright and airborne.

Banana can feel creamy, soft and expansive.

Apricot can suggest golden nectar.

Fig often feels inward, granular, enclosed.

Its sweetness seems to gather around the seeds.

For this absolute, I cured organic Smyrna figs before extraction, then allowed the fruit to macerate in tincture for eight years.

Afterward, I evaporated the solvent, concentrating the extraction into absolute form.

This is not a reconstructed fig accord built around green fig leaf, coconut-like lactones or a generalized milky fig impression.

It is an extraction of actual cured Smyrna fruit.

The aromatic territory I find most compelling is the contrast between the fig's honeyed interior and the more restrained character of its skin and seeds.

Golden dried fruit. Amber-colored sweetness. The suggestion of hay warmed in the sun. A faintly resinous or tobacco-like depth. The almost tactile impression of innumerable tiny seeds suspended in dense fruit.

These are possibilities to explore in the finished material, rather than a claim that every one must be present.

Smyrna Fig also offers an especially interesting counterpart to my recent Fig Milk.

Fig Milk explored the interiors of Kadota and Desert King figs through spontaneous fermentation, revealing an unexpectedly luminous, lactonic aromatic character.

Smyrna Fig Absolute follows a different route entirely.

A different fig type.

Curing rather than deliberate fermentation.

Eight years of tincture extraction, followed by concentration.

Two investigations of fig, separated by cultivar, process and aromatic intention.

Smyrna Fig closes CURED FRUIT as the tenth absolute.

Not the fresh fruit at its peak, but the fruit carried into another state.

Aromatic territory: Cured Smyrna fig · honeyed pulp · amber fruit · dried fig · granular seed-rich sweetness · warm hay · golden syrup · possible tobacco-like and resinous depth.

Extraction: Cured organic Smyrna Fig → eight years of tincture maceration → solvent evaporation → concentrated absolute.

Collection: CURED FRUIT · THE EIGHT-YEAR ABSOLUTES · F/W 2026.
